Waterco Micron Top Mount Sand Filter

The Waterco Micron is a fibreglass top-mount sand filter built for Australian residential and light commercial pools. The tank is wound from multiple continuous layers of fibreglass filament over a blow-moulded fibreglass-reinforced polyester resin inner shell — UV-resistant, corrosion-proof, and rated for a 10-year residential tank warranty.

Available in five sizes from 24" to 36" to suit pools of all sizes. Sand media is not included — see the bag requirement for each model in the variants below.

How does a top mount sand filter work?

Water from your pool pump enters the filter through the top-mounted multiport valve and is distributed evenly across the sand bed via the inflow diffuser. Dirt and debris are trapped in the spaces between sand particles as water travels down through the bed and exits through the laterals at the base. The filter is cleaned by switching the multiport valve to backwash mode, which reverses the water flow and flushes trapped debris to waste.

How much sand does a Waterco Micron filter need?

Sand requirements vary by model: the S600 (24") needs 8 bags, the S702 (28") needs 11 bags, the S800 (32") needs 17 bags, and the S900 (36") needs 23 bags. Sand is not included and must be purchased separately.

How often should I backwash a Waterco Micron sand filter?

Backwash when the pressure gauge reads 7–10 psi above the clean operating pressure, or approximately every 4–6 weeks depending on pool usage and bather load. Avoid backwashing too frequently as a slightly loaded filter bed actually improves filtration efficiency.
